Nature has historically been seen as a refuge and a source of renewal. Jean-Jacques Rousseau, in his writings, advocated the idea that a connection with nature is fundamental to achieving balance and clarity. Inspired by his philosophy, DSTUDIO investigates the effects of green infrastructure on people's well-being, promoting spaces that foster serenity and reflection.
The birch tree, a characteristic tree of the region and rich in symbolism, becomes the guiding thread of our proposal. Inspired by the tomb of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, we have designed an interior path where birch trees take center stage. Arranged at different heights and strategically located, these trees shape the interior space of the funeral home, creating a welcoming environment for users.
The concept created by our studio includes the design of flower arrangements that give the Albia Group a distinctive identity in all its funeral homes. All green elements are organically integrated into the building's design, creating a visual continuity that enhances the visitors' experience.
At DSTUDIO, we firmly believe in the transformative power of green infrastructure both inside and outside built spaces, and we are proud to present this project as an example of design that can positively impact our communities.
A LAMP, JEAN-JACQUES ROUSSEAU, AND THE GARDEN OF ERMENONVILLE
At DSTUDIO, we have proposed the creation of a comprehensive concept for the Albia Group, where every element is carefully designed to enhance green infrastructure and provide a space of serenity and reflection. Our lamp is a key piece of this proposal. Inspired by Jean-Jacques Rousseau's final resting place on an islet of birches in Ermenonville, the lamp uses vertical birch trunks of varying heights to evoke the serene irregularity of the natural landscape of the Ermenonville garden.
At the center of the installation, an illuminated profile symbolizes the clarity of thought that Rousseau championed, providing a soft and comforting light. With an approximate height of two and a half meters and a width of one and a half meters, the minimalist design of the lamp carries significant emotional weight, symbolizing the deep connection between nature and the human being. THE IMPORTANCE OF GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE
Plants play a crucial role in significant moments of human life, providing emotional and psychological well-being. According to Stephen Kaplan, a pioneering psychologist in Attention Restoration Theory and co-author of the study "The Experience of Nature: A Psychological Perspective," natural environments reduce stress and improve mood. Kaplan, Emeritus Professor of Psychology and Environmental Science at the University of Michigan, demonstrated that exposure to nature facilitates recovery from mental fatigue and decreases levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Additional research has found that exposure to green spaces can improve cognitive function and increase creativity, providing both psychological and intellectual benefits. The connection with nature is associated with higher levels of well-being and a lower incidence of mental disorders. In funeral homes and other spaces, plants help people process difficult emotions.
