The 3D rendering software company for architects and designers, Lumion, interviews our creative director and founder Daniel Valera to learn about how their software influences our daily work in landscape design and our relationship with clients.

"It's all digital. All projects are uploaded or delivered to clients digitally through an online platform, which they manage themselves from their phones."

In response to the growing demand for well-maintained, technologically advanced, and comfortable outdoor spaces with guarantees, our director says: "Lumion shows us the most beautiful parts of the garden, allows us to show them the ideas we want to develop, but also the problems that may arise [...] and you show it to them with an important and realistic graphic." And he highlights the impact that seeing their future garden virtually has on the client.

Focusing on some technical details, Valera mentions the time savings that come with using this tool compared to other programs. "We could spend several weeks until we could have a decent presentation for a client. However, now it's from one day to the next." He also applauds one of Lumion's most well-known functions, which "allows you to know exactly the position of the shadows in a garden, in a space, or the visibility you have with neighboring plots."

Sustainability is one of the pillars on which we build our designs at Dstudio. One reflection of this is the limited use of paper in the studio: "It's all digital. All projects are uploaded or delivered to clients digitally through an online platform, which they manage themselves from their phones." To drive projects with this philosophy, the client must trust the landscape architect. Valera explains that in the case of having to justify the use of a certain type of vegetation to a client, "A tool like Lumion can quickly demonstrate to the client what the project is, a design project, an author's project, a technologically advanced and sustainable project," he says, and adds that the client, when they see examples designed with this tool, tends to be more confident in hiring a landscape design project.
